Debutplatte des melancholischen britischen Trios um den Sänger und Songschreiber Mark Hollis, erschienen 1982. "Talk Talk" und "Today" daraus gab's auch als Singles.
Überzeugt heute nicht mehr wirklich. Noch ohne die Songs des genialen Komponisten Tim Friese-Green.

Der Anfang einer unglaublich kreativen Erfolgsgeschichte, die 1991 endete - seither veröffentlicht Hollis Solo-CDs.

Das Debut fiel nicht durch Genialität auf. Ein Durchschnitts 80er Synthie Pop Album.

La carrière de Talk Talk se divise en 3 :

1) l'album du début : The Party's Over, caractérisé par une pop/new wave optimiste, bien rythmée et bon enfant
2) It's My Life et The Colour of Spring : c'est l'entrée dans les top-ten du monde entier, l'état de grâce artistique et la consécration commerciale
3) The Spirit of Eden et The Laughing Stock : deux opus de post-rock expérimentale, mélancolique et indémodable.

En réécoutant The Party's Over, on peut facilement flairer le côté inovateur et le génie de ce groupe qui se développera et évoluera tout au long de la décénie 80. La voix de Mark Hollis est déjà un cadeau du ciel et les titres comme Today, Candy et Another World sont des perles trop méconnues de l'ouragan new wave des années 80.

Recht gute Scheibe, auch wenn sie nach starken Beginn etwas zurückfällt.
Einen exakten Höhepunkt kann man nicht ausmachen, man muss die Platte als Ganzes hören und wirken lassen...

Für mich das beste Talk Talk Album, gefüllt mit viel Gefühl
Angenehme Synthiesounds a la Oberheim und coolen Simmonsdrums.
Eigentlich schade, dass Simon Brenner nach diesem Album ausschied.
